Letter from the Founder.
When people hear the words "drug rehabilitation," they often think about helping someone stop using drugs or alcohol. While that is important, I believe recovery starts much earlier. In my earlier years, I worked in the counselling space with young people. I saw firsthand how trauma-informed care and counselling can change the trajectory of a young person's life. When a young person feels heard, understood, and supported, something shifts. The experience shaped what I believe about recovery.
Over the years, working with individuals and families in difficult situations, one thing has become clear: addiction is often connected to unresolved trauma, family breakdown, and mental health challenges that people have never had the opportunity to work through. That is why Tagimouciau was established. I want to give back to my own community of Taveuni. With the abuse of drugs and alcohol becoming increasingly rampant, I saw this as an opportunity to serve in a space that is rarely addressed but deeply important. Our community deserves access to real support, and I believe we can build it together.
Our goal is not simply to provide a place where people stop using drugs. We want to help people understand what has brought them to this point, support them as they heal, and prepare them to return to their families and communities with the tools they need to build a different future.
We also know that recovery cannot be achieved by one organisation alone. Families, churches, healthcare providers, government agencies, employers, village leaders, and the wider community all have a role to play. Lasting recovery happens when people are supported not only during treatment, but long after they leave.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Tagimouciau. We hope you will consider partnering with us as we work to strengthen individuals, families, and our community.
